Skipping, shapes and sorting!

Monday morning saw us shake off those morning blues and skip! Georgia came and taught the children different styles of skipping and it was great to watch every single child persevere and really try their hardest to achieve their own personal goals. It certainly kept away the Autumnal chill!

Mexico was the destination in Culture Club and the children made some fabulous Sombrero badges and they were introduced to Speedy Gonzalez - the fastest mouse in all of Mexico - and they had great fun with a homemade Pinata!

Tessellation is the name of the game  and it was great to see the children creating their own tessellating shape following the instructions on how to measure correctly. The finished result is great and could adorn any bathroom!

The children had a lovely time in Forest School last week making clay poppies in the week we remembered the soldiers who have fought for us. As you can see they were stunning

Magnetism is still flavour of the month and the children are enjoying investigating whether objects repel or attract...does anyone know what 3 metals an object must contain to attract a magnet?

Counting down ....

What a fantastic week in Year 3. We have been shaping up on finding the properties of 2D and 3D shapes in maths I wonder how many the children can recognise in the outside world?!This week we have been lucky enough to be shown some fantastic Anderson shelter work and even some home projects from children in 3D which will go towards their Copthill Challenge. What a great effort!

During our Art lesson, Christmas came a little early as we started our Christmas cards. We have continued with our work on playscripts both in English and in our practising of our lines ready for our Year 3 Christmas production. Mrs Teesdale and Mrs Donaldson have sourced some wonderful costumes ready for the big event - not sure who will prefer wearing the costumes more the teachers or the children!

Year 3 have had a wonderful Children in Need Day - joining in with the final hour of Joe Wicks' amazing 24 hours of PE session, also our very own Year 5 fitness video and completing the Children in Need word search for class prizes.

The children also joined in the last 20 minutes of Joe Wicks's  amazing 24 hour PE session and we were all amazed by his stamina and enthusiasm right until the very end in his own words 'He smashed it!'

Snap and Subtraction!

Welcome back! What a busy week we have had after returning to school. We were greeted by Magnet Man to aid us with our new science topic on magnetism.

We received some wonderful models, presentations and posters on Anderson Shelters. We now know so much about them and have even managed to go inside one built by Charly and his Father.

Mrs Teesdale’s Culture Club took them to Japan where they tried some Japanese street food of pancakes, fruit and cream. They also made some beautiful origami bookmarks. Mrs Donaldson’s Step into Christmas Club got busy chopping fruit and onions to make delicious Christmas Chutney.

In maths we have been busy perfecting our addition and subtraction skills - Mrs Donaldson’s group were busy completing some very tricky tarsias.

In English we have been looking at the features of a play script. We even acted out some known plays which was great fun!

Our art lesson this week was inspired by Kandinski. Some wonderful trees within a beautiful  setting were created whilst listening to Robert Wagner - just as Kandinski did whilst he created his masterpieces!

We have had our school photographs taken this week. They will be wonderful!

Finally we started and finished the week carefully whittling sticks in the sunshine with Mrs Bell during Forest School. How wonderful!

Have a superb weekend.

Cut Throat Celts

What a fantastic day we had out in the Forest on Wednesday. The school was thrown back 2,000 years and invaded by Cut Throat Celts. There ...
